I know I'm not the most charming guy on the face of the earth, but I sincerely try to do my best. So I was really touched at the end of this day of paddling when multiple people in different groups—all strangers at dawn—sought me out in particular to say not just goodbye, but how much they'd enjoyed having me on the trip. J was one of them.
