I had hauled so much [team] gear up to our high camp on Mt. Whitney that when it was time to go, I was forced to strap a bag on a bag. It took me about 2 (leisurely) hours to build this setup, and it weighed... a lot. I think it was close to 70 pounds.
As it turns out, this was far too much, and it was too awkwardly loaded. After struggling to control the shifting weight as I descended the now-mushy snow slope, I ditched the black bag into a cache in a snow bank by the trail. I had to return the next day—another 5 hours or so, round trip—to retreive it.
