mississippi
Crossed into Mississippi, where a dopey older couple tried to get a stuffed monkey to sit on top of a welcome sign for a souvenir photo. This didn't bode well. But in fact, Mississippi began to wildly exceed my expectations.
I stopped for the first night in a state forest which seems to be primarily used by hunters. The forest was clearly replanted after clear cutting or fire about 40 years ago, since all the trees were the same height and diameter, with an extremely limited understory. It made for unnatural, but pretty sight lines through the loose pine forest. I took a slower route out in the morning, though one which continued my path.
I continued to head due south (on 15 and 57?) towards the coast.
